The Personnelevator addresses vertical mobility impairments stemming from a wide variety of conditions, including Muscular Dystrophy, Parkinson’s Disease, and arthritis. I began the project in collaboration with my partner, Emily, who herself has a progressive neuromuscular disorder that has made it difficult for her to rise up from the ground unassisted. The project has benefited most from the engineering and machining expertise of Kevin Haninger, the videographic skills of Owen Kent, and the support of Berkeley’s EnableTech club, along with many of its members. While we have arrived at a working prototype, the project is ongoing, as we attempt to make the device both lighter and safer to operate.

Below you’ll find a brief slideshow of the manufacturing process, followed by a link to the project poster.
